This will be my last blog before Christmas and the last one of this year.
I truly hope we have a better year in 2021.
COVID has been tough on us all – mentally, physically and financially.
But the one bright spot in the gloom has been the efforts of all our members in responding, often on the front line, to this terrible virus.
I am proud that Unison members have continued to keep essential services running, have protected the most vulnerable and have supported our communities.
We have invested in some Unison branded face coverings for our members. We have a limited number but we will be giving them to local reps to distribute. You can also contact our office and we will happily send you one.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank Blackburn with Darwen Council for passing a motion at Policy Council calling for a government to review its decision on Union Learning funding.
You can read the motion here: Agenda for Policy Council on Thursday, 3rd December, 2020, 6.00 pm (blackburn.gov.uk)
It’s an important fund and it will be extremely disappointing if it’s ended forever.
Information will soon be coming out about our Annual General Meeting. This year, we will be holding the meetings virtually. It’s a shame we can’t come together because we do like to combine the main meeting with a social event.
I hope you can join at least one of the meetings.
Finally, I want to wish all of our members in the Council, Capita, the community sector and in schools a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
