Christmas is round the corner so I just wanted to reflect on the past year for our branch.
Like the last few years, 2018 has been a tough and challenging year for the Branch, the wider union and the Council.
But thanks to the hard work of our branch officers, stewards, activists, and of course, members, I like to think we have made a difference and tackled the challenges we face head on.
There have been a number of successes representing members which we have covered in previous newsletters.
Recently, we took part in Grovember, a month long campaign to recruit more members. We held lots of activities including several walk rounds and I am pleased to say we did manage to get new people to join and grow our branch.
I was also delighted that Harry Catherall took the time to write a piece encouraging people to become reps.
Without reps, we would not be able to function as a branch so we are always on the look out for people who might want to get more involved. I want to pay special tribute to our stewards who work tirelessly to represent members in all workplaces. Thanks for everything you do, day in, day out.
Paperwork for our Annual General Meeting will soon be sent out and should be arriving in your letterbox soon. This year, like last year, we are running the AGM a bit differently than previous years. We are holding a hot supper and quiz night again. And like last year, we are also buying every member a drink to thank them for being members – after all, the branch would be nothing without the members.
One more special mention. Louise, our Branch Organiser, deserves special praise for all the work she puts in making sure the branch runs smoothly.
Finally, I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year whether you are spending it with the family, friends or are working delivering important services to the borough.
