FREE TRAINING FOR UNISON MEMBERS WHO WORK IN SCHOOLS

We are running our popular Summer School for schools support staff again this year. The summer school is an opportunity for people who are working in schools to develop their knowledge and skills in school.

We have four half day sessions running. You can apply for as many of the sessions as you want.

Please fill in as much information as possible to help us find you on our system. You will then receive joining instructions and a short form to fill in and return to us to get you booked on to the course.

The sessions will be held at UNISON, Arena Point, 1 Hunts Bank, Manchester, M3 1UN. We have these sessions running in three different cities so please make sure you pick the right session for you.

We have responded to the requests of schools staff to run the following half day sessions:

Autism Awareness (Children) Tuesday 28th August AM- Tutor: Jez Brigham

This half day session looks at recognising and supporting school children with autism. Great for any TAs or schools support staff.

The tutor for this session is Jez Brigham, he is currently Deputy Head of a special school and has had a broad career working at a primary school and children with SEN. He has developed strategies for dealing with extremely challenging behaviour and has delivered training to education teams and teachers.

Dealing with Violence in Schools Tuesday 28th August PM – Tutor: Jez Brigham

This half day session looks at de-escalating violent situations and how to recognise signs

and signals that pre-empt a violent outburst from pupils. Great for any TAs or schools support staff.

The tutor for this session is Jez Brigham, he is currently Deputy Head of a special school and has had a broad career working at a primary school and children with SEN. He has developed strategies for dealing with extremely challenging behaviour and has delivered training to education teams and teachers.

Dyslexia Awareness (Children) Wednesday 29th August AM  – Tutor: TBC

This half day session looks at recognising and supporting children with dyslexia in the school. Great for any TAs or schools support staff.

We are currently working with a number of organisations to ensure that we get the right person to run this session. Please book as normal.

Children’s Mental Health Wednesday 29th August PM – Tutor – CAMHS

This half day session looks at recognising different mental health issues in children and supporting children with mental health issues. Great for any TAs or schools support staff.

 

This half day session is run by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service; they have in depth knowledge and experience of working with children with a wide range of mental health issues.
