Chance to shine for stars in our schools

UNSUNG heroes in education now have their chance to shine at special events this month.

Stars in Our Schools is UNISON’S scheme to celebrate the achievements of all support staff – that’s everyone who helps children learn and keep children safe, including caterers, admin staff,  finance officers,  teaching assistants, librarians and many more – in Blackburn and  Darwen schools.

Special ceremonies, assemblies and tea parties will be held across the towns to say a big thank you to those staff for everything that they do on November 27.

If your school wants to get involved, you could invite all support staff to join the children for a special lunch – include cleaners, ground staff and other ‘hidden’ staff or make time for kitchen and lunch staff to join the children and talk about the food they eat and why it matters.

Whatever you do – make a big fuss of all those staff. Perhaps have an awards ceremony in a special assembly give different awards to the staff.

School support staff play such an important role in children’s education.

UNISON campaigns for better pay, conditions and training opportunities for them, and on 27 November we want everyone to celebrate what a vital role they play and give them the recognition they deserve.

We would love to publish your messages of support on this website and hear from heads, teachers, parents, governors and children about the difference school support staff make at school.
