Stars in Our Schools is Unison’S scheme to celebrate the achievements of all support staff – that’s everyone who helps children learn and keep children safe, including caterers, admin staff, finance officers, teaching assistants, librarians and many more – in Blackburn and Darwen schools.

Leave without pay update

The Council presented several options around Leave Without Pay to the Local Joint Negotiating Committee but following extensive discussions, there were no options we felt we could take back to the membership to vote on. Circumstances have changed since the first Agreement was signed and because of the scale of the budget challenges facing the Council, they were unable to offer us assurances that term and conditions would not form part of the savings options being developed.”

Councillors praised for backing UNISON

UNISON Blackburn with Darwen branch have praised councillors who stood up for trade unions in the council chamber.

Councillor Don McKinlay, member for Higher Croft, asked councillor Mohammed Khan, leader of the council, whether the anti-trade union bill had any part to play in British society at the Council Forum last night (Thursday, December 3).

UNISON continues to fight for fairer society

GENERAL secretary Dave Prentis urged delegates at  UNISON’s LGBT conference to continue the fight against the government’s Trade Union Bill as it now heads to the Lords.

Attacking the “vicious, vindictive bill”, he highlighted a number of the clauses in the proposed legislation.

Changes to policies

A NUMBER of changes have been made to policies which will affect Blackburn with Darwen UNISON members.

The Performance Management policy has been adapted to include a new section entitled  Inability to perform the duties of the post.  This is to be used where there is no way an employee can or will be able to undertake their duties.

Unison pays tribute to the people of Paris

UNISON has declared a national stance of solidarity with unions in France following the indiscriminate killings in Paris.

Speaking on behalf of the union, general secretary Dave Prentis told French colleagues, “We pay tribute to the people of Paris who opened their doors to those who were injured and stranded as a result of the killing spree.
