Cancer sufferers asked about experiences

PEOPLE with terminal cancer who are willing to talk about their positive or negative experiences in work, are asked to come forward to help a new campaign.

UNISON is asked to support TUC’s campaign, which would like to see terminal illness recognised as a ‘protected characteristic’ so that an employee with a terminal illness would enjoy a ‘protected period’ where they could not be dismissed as a result of their condition.

Campaign against the Trade Union Bill set to continue

UNISON members have been praised for taking part in the lobby on November 2, as the campaign continues against the Trade Union Bill.

The Bill is due to be discussed in the House of Commons on Monday, November 16.

A campaign of local meetings is set to continue, including a large event in Liverpool, organised in partnership with the Institute of Employment Rights:

  • City Learning Centre, Bathurst Avenue, Blackpool, FY3 7RW on Tuesday, November 10, from 7pm – 8.30pm.

UNISON North West LGBT Meetings 2016

 The UNISON North West Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Committee is pleased to announce its open meetings for 2016 will take place on the following dates:

 Saturday 23rd January – 11am – 4pm

Thursday 26th May – 6pm – 8pm

Saturday 10th September (AGM) – 11am – 4pm

In addition, a training and development day will take place on Saturday 19th March from 11am – 4pm.

UNSUNG heroes in education now have their chance to shine at special events this month.

Stars in Our Schools is UNISON’S scheme to celebrate the achievements of all support staff – that’s everyone who helps children learn and keep children safe, including caterers, admin staff,  finance officers,  teaching assistants, librarians and many more – in Blackburn and  Darwen schools.

A Young Members Officer acts as the eyes and ears of younger people in the branch – but also listens to their ideas.

The man at the helm in Blackburn with Darwen’s office is Jacques McCaughran who has been busy netting new recruits this year and explains there are multiple benefits for signing up.

With government plans to make changes including replacing final salary scheme with a career average scheme, an increase in retirement age and cost sharing, the union believes it is time to take a stand.
