National Schools Meeting at 5pm on Wed 24 Feb
With all schools in England reportedly set to open from 8 March, UNISON is holding a members’ meeting to talk through the government’s announcement on schools and what this means for members.

Due to the coronvirus pandemic we are unable to hold our usual AGM with food and entertainment. Instead, we will be holding a number of meetings virtually.
Each member of Blackburn with Darwen Local Government Branch who attends will receive a £10 voucher and will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win £150, £75, £50 high st vouchers.

Let’s Vaccinate the Borough
It is pleasing to see locally that the vaccination programme is in full swing and lots of credit has to go to our NHS colleagues for delivering such a complex programme.
The NHS is one of this country’s greatest and cherished institutions and they are once again dong us proud.

The Lancashire UNISON Branch have arranged a petition on restoring sleep-in rates for Social Care Staff across Lancashire. They are the only Council in the North West to reduce sleep-in pay for Social Care staff and now staff across Lancashire are paid a significantly lower rate than their colleagues elsewhere in the North West.

Early Years continues to be forgotten by this government in their response to the Covid-19 crisis. Concerns around safety and funding are ignored, leaving early years staff, children and local communities at risk. Cuts in funding could see many settings
forced to close for good.
